Obsessed

Are you obsessed? If you are, what are you obsessed with? Some of us are probably embarrassed to share what our obsessions include. Truth is, everyone is obsessed with someone or something—some good and some bad.

According to Dictionary.com to be obsessed means to think about something unceasingly or persistently. Some of us are obsessed with pride, money, ourselves, drugs, pornography, etc. These are all dangerous paths that ultimately will lead to destruction.

I want to challenge you to be obsessed for greater. I challenge you to live for a purpose that's greater than you. I challenge you to be obsessed with someone who is greater than you. Who is that someone? Jesus. Let us begin.

People who are obsessed with Jesus love those who hate them. Is there someone in your life that you can't get along with? Is there someone no matter how nice you are to them, there never nice back to you? Is there someone who you feel like you can't forgive? We all know know/have those people. Obsessed people forgive those who hurt them. Obsessed people still love on people that hurt them. Pray for your enemies.

Matthew 5:44 states, "But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you."

Obsessed people are more concerned with obeying God than the world. A person obsessed with Jesus will do things that don't make sense to the rest of the world. We're called to be in this world— not of it. Be a rebel. Rebel against the culture. Rebel against the norm. Alice Cooper once stated, "Sex, drugs, and rock n roll is easy. True Christianity—that's rebellion.

A person who is obsessed with Jesus knows that pride is always a battle. Glory is something we all love. Obsessed people know that you can never be humble enough. They make themselves less known and Jesus more known. John 3:30 states, "He must become greater and I must become less."

Obsessed people are more focused on giving than receiving. Obsessed people serve others and don't expected to be served in return. I myself have struggled with this. It's so easy to have a "look what I did for you, now what do I get in return attitude?" Jesus was the greatest servant of all time, he expects us to serve too. We love God by serving him and his people.

A person who is obsessed with Jesus is focused on eternity, not here and now. It's so easy to get lost in the pleasures of today. When you're focused on eternity, earthly problems become smaller. The Bible tells us to set our minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:2)  Let your roots grow in Christ. Colossians 2:7 states, "Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness."

Live for Christ's acceptance. Be obsessed with him. What's the worst that can happen? Maybe being judged and picked on. You have a God that's there in your corner cheering you on. Matthew 5:10-11 states, "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me." That's an obsession you'll never regret.
