Not Good Enough

Have you ever felt like you're not good enough? You're definitely not alone. I think EVERY human being on earth has struggled with this exact feeling. The thing is— once you hear you're not good enough some many times— you start to believe it. That just messes people up. No one deserves to feel like that.

Maybe a close friend, parent, boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife, coworker, or family member said you're not good enough. Maybe you think you're too fat or skinny. Maybe you're not satisfied with your body in general. Maybe you don't think you're smart. Heck, maybe you think you're ugly. I don't know what you're struggling with. Truth is— we all have at least one insecurity. If you're struggling with this feeling—I want to tell you that you are good enough. God's power is made perfect in weakness.

Maybe you don't feel good enough because you feel ugly. You were made by God. Nothing made by God is ugly. A verse that I turn to when I'm not feeling "good enough" is Psalm 139:14 it states, "I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well." Every single one of us is made wonderfully. In God's eyes were blemish free, flawless, and perfect.

By no means am I perfect, or remotely even close to it. Look around though—some of the best looking people are the most broken. We all know good looking people that are good looking on the outside, but are broken on the inside. For example, look at Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift. They might look good on the outside, but their music reflects how broken they truly are on the inside. 1 Peter 3:3-4 says, "Don't be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God."

It's easy to feel "not good enough" when you compare yourself with other people. We are all made uniquely. I love how in Ecclesiastes 6 it talks about how human desire is never satisfied. We all want bigger and better. I'm going to let you in on a little secret—you'll never be satisfied in yourself until you are satisfied in Christ. Galatians 6:4 states, "Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won't compare yourself to anyone else." You have your own race to run—stop comparing yourself to others.

1 Samuel 16:7 states, "But the Lord said Samuel, "Don't judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn't see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." I want to challenge you to stop trying to find beauty on the outside, and start searching on the inside. Not everyone can be supermodels on the outside. We all have the ability to be beautiful on the inside. Beauty on the inside outshines any beauty on the outside. True beauty isn't found in a face; true beauty is found in the heart. God isn't going to judge our outside—he is going to judge our inside.

God showed that we're "good enough" by sending his very own son Jesus to die for us. That's the ultimate sacrifice. Maybe you're tired from feeling like you're not good enough. We get so consumed with not being good enough that we forget how good God is. Psalms 34:18 tells us that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and rescues those whose spirits are crushed. Sometimes letting goes allows us to come alive. If you know someone that feels like their not good enough—reach out to them and love on them. We're all in need of love.

I hope you have a blessed holiday season and enjoy time with friends and family. Maybe you're feeling distant from Jesus or have never asked him into your life. What better time than Christmas? Don't forget the CHRIST in Christmas. God Bless!
