Two weeks ago my church (Hillside) started a series on time. If you don't have a church come check out Hillside. Hillside is a church that is built around loving God and loving people. Hillside isn't a church filled with perfect people; it's a church filled with people who admit that they aren't perfect and need a savior. It doesn't matter your background or your "religion." We'd love to have you. Come check us out.
Tic... tic... tic... you hear that? That's the time ticking right away. Ben Franklin once stated, "You may delay, but time will not." Truth is you can't change the time. Time is something that we can't stop or fast forward. If you figure out how to do it— please let me know.
Some days do you ever feel like you wasted your whole day? I have. It's a horrible feeling. So often we waste our time watching T.V., playing video games, sitting on social media, reading my blog posts, etc. The last one isn't a time waster—but I think you know what I mean. Why do we waste so much time on things that don't matter? The time that you waste on social media is time that you could spend reaching out to others. With that time you could read the Bible and see some real change in your life.
The Bible has a Y.O.L.O. verse in it! For those of you still living in the 18th century, Y.O.L.O. means You Only Live Once. Ephesians 5:16 states, "Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days." Pastor Mark shared this verse two weeks ago and when he shared it I was smiling from ear to ear. I found this verse two years ago and have applied it to my life ever since. I challenge you to apply this to your life. When you start making the most out of all your days it changes your life.
Live your days as if your days are numbered. Live each day like it's your last. You never know when your last breathe might come. Don't take your breaths for granted. Thank God for his grace. Each breathe is a gift from God. With each breathe you take, it's just God showing you that you've been forgiven.
There is a time and a place for everything. Check out Ecclesiastes 3:3-7. Ecclesiastes 3:8 states, "A time for love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace." Spend your time embracing love and peace.
Psalms 90:12 states, "So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom." Time management is so crucial. The secret isn't adding more hours to the day—it"s prioritizing your time correctly. I'm definitely far from perfect and I'm still working on this as well. Don't put temporary pleasure before eternal joy. Chasing after fools goals only gets you fools gold. Ask yourself, "What are the biggest things in my life?" "What do I spend my time doing?"
I challenge you to make God part of your time. It's a hard decision—but I promise you won't regret it. It will change your life for the better. God will never put you in his time jar. Make God a priority, not an option. Don't waste your life.
