Wounded Duck

As many of you know Phil Robertson was suspended off of the hit show "Duck Dynasty" on A&E.  I was extremely disappointed to hear the news like many of you. I don't think Phil's intentions were bad or even wrong to any degree. I love how he handled the whole situation. He didn't jab around the bush or sugar coat anything—he told the truth.

This post might get some flack, but each person can have their own opinion. I can have mine and you can have yours—let us begin. The first thing that comes to mind is where is the 1st Amendment? Aren't we allowed the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion? Why can someone make a comment supporting gay marriage and not receive any grief— but than someone points out why gay marriage is wrong and their kicked off a show? Where are the equal rights we're entitled?

Here is what Phil said, “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” he says. Then he paraphrases Corinthians: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

The verse he quoted is 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 and it states, "Don't you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don't fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God."

I think "Christians" and the church in general has treated homosexuals poorly. I feel like Christians in general can be the most judgmental/hypocritical people in the world. I think that non-Christians look down on Christians because a majority of Christians don't practice what they preach. As Christians shouldn't we be reaching out to the homosexuals? Shouldn't we be loving on them and pointing them to Jesus instead of judging them and persecuting them? (Phil wasn't not being judgmental just stating a biblical truth).

I personally don't think gay marriage is right. I won't judge you or think any differently of you if you don't agree with me. Gay marriage has never been God's plan. You won't find any passage of scripture saying gay marriage is right. God made Adam and Eve for a purpose. Genesis 2:24 talks about how man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one flesh. Marriage was meant to be between a man and a woman.

Whenever someone speaks out against gay marriage it's a big deal especially if the person is a Christian. I applaud Phil for being real with his faith. He didn't hide his beliefs, he was open and honest.

Phil released this statement, "My mission today is to go fourth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the Bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like him, I love all humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and each other."

Phil nailed everything he said. The world needs more outspoken Christians like Phil Robertson. Why should we be afraid to share the love of Jesus? The truth is we are all in need of grace—homosexuals and heterosexuals. The world needs less judgement and more Jesus. Everyone would be "Happy Happy Happy."
