Flappy Bird

Do you know what the latest Internet craze is? Flappy Bird. Flappy Bird is a game on the App Store that has blown up. It's all over Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

What's your Flappy Bird high school? Mine is 92! I'd love to hear about your high score—or the highest score someone else you know has gotten in the comments section below.

Flappy Bird requires an incredible amount of patience. Some of the deaths are pathetic. Here's my advice on how to play. 1) Lock yourself in your room. 2) Say a prayer. 3) Put tape over your mouth. 4) Open the game. 5) Tap as lightly as possible. 6) Bite your tongue (for concentration). 7) Lose. 8) Throw your phone across the room—preferably at a soft object. 9) Scream (That's why the tape is crucial). 10) Repeat.

It's hilarious being out in public and seeing people freaking out over a death in Flappy Bird. I guess the struggle truly is real. I've heard and read some pretty ridiculous stories about the game. One reviewer said, "Flappy Bird took over my life. I had dreams, nightmares, visions, you name it. I began to daydream, seeing Flappy Bird everywhere including my own shadow."

Flappy Bird and God have a lot in common. I didn't stutter—I promise. I'll say it one more time, Flappy Bird and God have a lot in common. In Flappy Bird, every time you screw up you get to start over. God is the same way. He loves giving us second chances. He looks past all our flaws, shortcomings, failures, and mistakes. He doesn't see us as worthless—he sees us as his beautiful creation.

In Flappy Bird, your constantly trying to dodge objects. In life we're constantly dodging objects too. Maybe it's your past, a loss, regret, job issue, addiction—we all have our own unique issues. In God we find strength to overcome those issues. Jesus overcame the world— that same power and spirit is in us. (John 16:33)

When you die in Flappy Bird, it says game over. With God the game is never over. Luckily God doesn't get mad at us when we screw up. If God's patience level with us is like our patience level in Flappy Bird—we would all be goners. I used to think I had to wait till the New Year to start over—now I realize that God gives me that chance daily. God never went away. His love never changed. He's always there waiting to embrace us. Run to him—his arms are wide open.
